Minna: House Approves N25 Billion Sukuk Money

Niger state governor (Abubakar Sani Bello)

The Niger state house of Assembly has approved the release of 25  billion naira sukuk bond at request of the governor, Abubakar Sani Bello.

The governor wrote an apologia to the house after he made the request last week.

The speaker of the house, Barrister Abdullahi Abba Wuse, announced the approval along with hints of what the money will be used for. The speaker hinted that around 400 Km of roads will be constructed with the funds.

The state governor said last week that the money was needed urgently to execute projects on infrastructure and health care.

Tensions are high between the executive and the legislature in Niger state after members of the house of Assembly accused the governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, of ‘mismanaging’ 126 billion naira in 2019.

The masses of Niger state are largely skeptical of the funds going into what they have been proposed for.
