Bandits Have Informants In Government--Abu Lolo

Abu Lolo

The Niger state governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, has hinted that the  bandits who have been wreaking havoc in parts of the state might have informants in the government.

He made the assertion in a press briefing at the government house today.

He is recorded to have said, “the bandits get guidance, assistance, aid and information from some of us here”

‘Us’ as used in this statement might imply a range of people, from the journalists in attendance to the governor himself to other government officials present.

The press briefing took place in the government house hence; ‘here’ as used in the state could well imply the government house. Whichever message is received, no one can be trusted; the governor himself asserted this.

The governor also gave a short tale of how an individual on social media gave away the location of security operatives to bandits.

Still in the press briefing, the governor hinted at the deployment of ‘ICT’ to the affected local governments affected to help restore peace; the nature of the ‘ICT’ was not revealed.

Abu Lolo, as he is famously called, intimated the press that vehicles and motorcycles without plate number plates will be assumed to be for acts of terrorism and also said the ultimate way out of the indaba was dialogue and economic empowerment for the youth.

Vigilante Groups

Still in the agenda of events, Abu Lolo distributed 120 motorcycles and 12 vehicles to various vigilante groups. The machines are intended to assist the groups help keep the peace in the banditry infested local governments of Rafi, Shiroro, Munya, Paikoro, Mariga and Rijau.

11 people were killed by bandits in Rafi local government last week Saturday while 4 women were abducted in Shiroro local government. Residents have reported the likelihood of bandits using helicopters to target villages in the zone.

The coming of the APC governments at state and federal levels in Nigeria spearheaded by Muhammadu Buhari has brought about a marked reduction in Boko Haram activities but a concomitant astronomical rise in banditry, kidnapping and massacres by suspected herdsmen.
