Minna: 16 Arrested For Beating Police Officers

Nigerian police officer

Police in Niger state have arrested 16 people, mostly commercial motorcyclists, for beating up two of its personnel and torching a police patrol vehicle.

According to police accounts, a reckless truck driver brushed the side of the moving patrol vehicle forcing it to the sidewalks where it hit two pedestrians.

In a short moment, commercial motorcyclists encircled the occupants of the patrol vehicle and beat them to a pulp.

The incident happened close to the pedestrian bridge at the famous Kure ultra-modern market. It is not known with certainty what has happened to the two pedestrians who were knocked down by the police patrol vehicles but, the two policemen who received the mob beating are said to be undergoing treatment at two separate hospitals.

Commercial transporters and traders in Nigeria always seize the opportunity to vent their frustrations on police officers who they say extort and brutalize them at the slightest opportunity.
