Minna: TDF Residents Raise Alarm Over Possible Fires

Power lines
Residents of Tudun Fulani (TDF) in Minna the Niger state capital  have called on AEDC (Abuja Electricity Distribution Company), the electric power authority in the state, to do more in regulating the voltage being channeled to their homes and neighbourhood.

On the radio program, The Masses, that aired on Prestige FM today (26th December) the presenters, ‘Generals’ Henry and Comfort, lamented that power surges were destroying electrical appliances with the potential of setting homes ablaze.

They narrated the case of a woman who went into her living room only to find a cushion chair (close to an electric socket) in flames.

In Nigeria, countless people have been burnt to death in their homes due to overnight fires caused by power surges.

On February 11th this year, a pregnant woman was burnt to death along with her two children in the Ungwan Biri area of Minna.

Just on Monday (December 24th), a plaza in the city center was engulfed in flames leading to the destruction of property worth millions of naira. It was also due to a power surge.

On September 10 2017, the president of Fire Disaster Prevention and Safety Awareness Association of Nigeria, Badanga Ahmed Lamidi, disclosed that fire had destroyed property worth over N6 trillion in five years.
