Famous British actor, Idris Elba, has confirmed that
test results have revealed him to be a carrier of the dreaded disease. He
posted a video on his twitter handle at around 8 pm on Monday.
Beside him was
his wife, Sabrina Dhowre Elba, who he said was still awaiting her teat result.
Elba said he came across a group of people on Friday who later tested positive
after which he decided to quarantine himself and seek a medical test.
He said in the tweet, “This morning I tested positive for Covid 19. I feel ok, I have no
symptoms so far but have been isolated since I found out about my possible
exposure to the virus. Stay home people
and be pragmatic. I will keep you updated on how I’m doing No panic.”
A number of high profile individuals across the
globe have tested positive for the disease which broke in the Wuhan province of
China in December 2019. Reports have it that about 8% of Iranian government
officials have tested positive for the disease making it look like Iran was targeted.
As of today (16 March), over 181,000 cases of
COVID-19 have been reported in more than 160 countries and territories. Major
outbreaks have been reported in mainland China, Europe, Iran and South Korea,
among others. Over 7,100 people have died from the disease and about 78,000
have recovered.
