2023 Elections: It Was Always A Religious War

Whether the 'Yes Daddy' audio is authentic or not, this was a religious war from the very start. Imams, bought by the All Progressives Congress (APC), labelled Muslims "disbelievers" and "hypocrites" for planning to vote for certain individuals. A party knows they have no credibility. If campaigns remain issue-based, they stand absolutely no chance. Therefore, they tried to turn the election into a religious tussle starting with Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Imams turned elections into population census saying things like, “let’s show the Christians that we are more in number”; thereby making Muslims totally forget that they are the most disadvantaged people in the country despite the government being heavily dominated by Muslims.

If it is such a big deal that Peter Obi solicited the support of Christian leaders, what do we have to say about APC running helter-skelter trying to garner the support of Muslim leaders? On 3rd January 2023, Tinubu met North-West Muslim leaders in Kano to woo them. Why wasn’t that a problem?

If gaining the support of religious groups is 'starting a religious war', again, what do we have to say about Tinubu and his APC?

Like I have said repeatedly, no party in the history of Nigeria has ridden on the back of ethno-religious hatred and bigotry than the APC and the worst of it was seen in the build-up to the 2023 general elections.

However, if Nigerians were to embrace objectivity, it would not matter if Tinubu picked the Sultan of Sokoto as his running mate.
